Quick Escape to Berastagi Highland!

What a busy day? It is 17.37 and I am still sitting in my office. I want to go home but it is after office hour. It reminds me how the road will be so jammed and I might be stuck for minutes before I can reach home.

Hmmm.. and right now, I am thinking to find some cool and calm places that can make me feel relax.. Highland might be a very good choice.. and the nearest one will be Berastagi Highland. I wish I was there now..

It is the nearest highland with just less than 1.5hours drive from Medan.. People love to go there to spend their weekend. There you will find the city with its traditional market selling fresh flowers, fruits & vegetables. I have some pictures that I can show my fellow travellers how it looks like and you will know what I mean.

From Berastagi highland, if we drive further about 40 minutes passing through the town of Kaban Jahe, we will end up in a place called Sipiso-piso. This is the place where you can enjoy the beautiful view from the top of Toba Lake with the Sipiso-piso waterfall at the other side.

From that point, if you wish to get closer to the lake, just 20 minutes drive down the hill passing through beautiful valley, and you will end up in small fisherman village called Tongging which is located next to Lake Toba. I still remember the tranquility of those village.. All seems so perfect...

Where is Medan?

So, where is Medan?

It is a city in the west part of Indonesia and located in Sumatra Island and has been the capital city of North Sumatra Province.

It is near to Malaysia and Singapore. Indeed, because of its location, it is faster and easier to travel to the capital city of neighbouring countries rather than to our own capital city. For example, 55 minutes flight to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore compare to 120 minutes flight to Jakarta. As a result, people prefer to spend their holiday in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore than Jakarta.

Medan has its sister city around the world and the nearest one is Penang , Malaysia. Penang is just 45 minutes flight from Medan. Because of its location, Penang and Medan are pretty similar in term of its local culture and city structure.

Intro: Where am I, now?

I am in Medan, my very beloved hometown...

City with so many happennings that run through people's everyday life.

City where you can enjoy plenty of sunshine and you can probably get wet at the same time by its moody tropical rain.

City where the people loves car so much thus keeping them buy cars more than their family members and feed all the street until every road is congested.

City with lots of trees in almost every corner of the dusty street yet so little space for city park to become the playground for children and people walk and relax.

City where you will see lots of 'becak'* and 'angkot'* that never full and wonder why the governor keeps adding them in this beautiful city.

So.. where is Medan?
